Deadliest Catch – The Hunt for Red, Opilio, & King Crab – Season 5
Adventurous crew men aboard fishing boats that sail across the Bering Sea in search of the Alaskan King Crab and the Opilio Crab, two of the most deadliest catches of the sea. “Deadliest Catch” is a documentary show created by Thom Beers that first aired on the Discovery Channel in 2005. It is now broadcast in at least one-hundred countries and revolves around eight to ten crab fishing boats that experience the most dangerous crab fishing seasons.
The episodes focus on different stories or situations that various boats have to experience. During the episodes, the U.S. Coast Guard is present as a rescue team and accompanies the camera crew during filming. Alaskan crab fishing is a dangerous job due to the fact that the Bering Sea is a harsh environment to work in. Crewmen experience multiple injuries because of the weather during the seasons they fish in. These weather conditions include rogue waves, frigid gales, the formation of ice on the boats and more. The machinery that they work with is extremely heavy and dangerous when the boat is constantly moving.
